Mrs. Jewdean Newton of New Albany, MS was born Jewdean Pulliam on August 14,1923 to the late Pink and Annie Pulliam in New Albany, MS.
Jewdean received her formal education in the Union County School System.
In early years, she first began her employment doing domestic work and being a nanny for a wealthy family.
Jewdean later met and married the late Qulice Newton who adopted her son, the late Bobby Newton. Together, they provided nurturing and guidance for their son, Bobby.
After relocating to Milwaukee, Wisconsin seeking permanent employment and a better life’s, Jewdean was employed at Luetzow Laundry in Milwaukee and the laundry department at Greentree Nursing
Home in Glendale, Wisconsin.
In 1985 she retired and returned to New Albany, MS where she resided until her earthly transition in her home on August 30, 2019.
In Earlier years, Jewdean attended Union Grove Baptist Church in the Pumpkin Center community of New Albany, MS.
While living in Milwaukee, Jewdean rededicated her life to God and became a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Holy Church under the pastoral leadership of Bishop (Mother) Gertrude Pitts. While there, she became an active member of the Pastor’s Aid Department preparing meals in the church Fellowship Hall every first Sunday.
She often spoke of her special friends and extended family members she left behind in Milwaukee, especially B.F. Ford, Josephine Ford & family.
On a local level, Jewdean gained other extended family members who affectionally called her mother, grandmother, grandma and “grand” - All to whom she had a special bond include Terrance and Evonne Dye, Preston and Marcel Martin, Paul Lyles, Izzie Reed, James Simmons, Bettie Wade and Ann Simmons who referred to grandma as “Sweet heart”
They all were caring, loving and showed her much love and respect. In return, Jewdean loved and appreciated them all.
Life should be measured not by the number of years, but by the love shared, the memories made, the joy given and the blessings received.
Jewdean was preceded in death by her parents Pink and Annie Pulliam her husband Qulice Newton, son Bobby Newton, sisters Ruby Alexander and Verlean Ragland; Three brothers Noverda Pulliam, Cecil Pulliam, and Willie “Sunny” Pulliam.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two granddaughters Bridget Newton of New Albany,MS and Jocelyn Newton of Milwaukee, WI., daughter-in-law, Mary Catherine of Milwaukee, WI, two sisters Ernestine Ivy of New Albany, MS, and Annette Adams of Detroit, MI, Nieces, Nephews , other relatives and friends.
