Chief William Anthony Anderson,  Sr., 61, of New Albany, MS, transitioned on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Booneville, MS

William Anthony Anderson was born to the late William "WM" Anderson and the late Ilene Anderson on July 12, 1962. He quietly and peacefully departed this life on March 9, 2024 surround by friends and his Northeast Community College family.

Anthony was a graduate of East Union Attendance Center. While at East Union, he was an outstanding high school athlete, playing for the East Union Epic Urchins. After high school, he furthered his education and sports career at Northeast Community College, playing for the Northeast Tigers. He also continued his career at Middle Tennessee State University.  He finished as the leading scorer in NJCAA Region 23 and was recognized as the Babe McCarthy Junior College player of the year, which was awarded to the top athlete at the two year level in the Magnolia State. He was an NJCAA  All-American and he was noted by his peers and head coach Richard Mathis as Northeast's most valuable player as well. He was inducted into the Northeast Hall of Fame and the Mississippi  Hall of fame.

After his college career, he later entered law enforcement as a deputy for the Union County Sheriff's Department and also served as the CHS investigator. He was the Chief of Police for the city of Verona, MS. Chief Anthony Anderson completed his career as the dedicated Chief of Police for the Northeast Mississippi Community college. 

At an early age, he accepted Christ as his savior at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was was an active and dedicated member for many years serving on the Deacon Board. Later, he moved his membership to Ecru Second Baptist Church where he  served as a Deacon, Assistant Church Treasurer, Outreach Team Liaison and also a reliable liaison for the Music Ministry. Anthony faithfully served wherever he was needed.  He was a member of Project Domino and the Man-Up Organization.

On September 27, 1985, Anthony was united in Holy Matrimony to Constance "Connie" Vernatt Smith, who he  dearly cherished. To this blessed union, three children were born. 

Chief Anderson used his allotted time to serve God and community. He was a  leader, mentor, counselor and encourager to young people all over the area. His legacy of service and dedication will live on  and be remembered by those he served. His "never met a stranger" personality, easy smile and professional demeanor will always be remembered.

He leaves cherished memories with his devoted wife; Connie Anderson, son; William Anthony Anderson, Jr. (Amie) of New Albany, MS, daughter; Ebony Anderson of Memphis, TN,  MS and Anna Jade (Felix) Price of Pontotoc, MS, three grandchildren; Kydyn, Fallyn and Lennux, his loving sister; Carlena (Eddie) Simpson, nephew; Keith (Kim) Anderson, niece; Darlene Johnson and nephew; Kevin Simpson and a host of relatives and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; WM and Ilene Anderson,

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 722 Coulter Drive, New Albany, MS  38652

Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 216 Highway 15, New Albany, MS  38652 

Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, New Albany, MS
