Virginia Hamer-Gibson, 63, of Michigan City, MS, transitioned on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Virginia Hamer-Gibson was born on April 17, 1962, in Grand Junction, TN, to the late L.B. and Elcylean Hamer. She was the second youngest of their eleven children. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Hill Baptist Church in Ashland, MS.
She received her education at Ashland High School. After high school, she worked at Pep in Ripley, MS. She later began working at Ashland Middle/High School where she served as a member of the cafeteria staff until she retired in 2022. She then worked at the Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center until her health failed.
She found happiness in cooking meals that comforted others, walking, browsing the aisles on a good shopping day, loving on her grandchildren, and enjoying every second that she spent with her family. Her jokes and stories brought people together. Her humor, her laughter, her bluntness, and her love for her family will be remembered always.
Virginia was preceded in death by her father, L.B. Hamer; her mother, Elcylean Hamer; one brother, George Poplar; three sisters, Bonnie Webb, Jennie Gibson, and Ester Avery; and her god-grandson, Wilmontre Hamer.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Montrel Gibson of New Albany, MS and Keontrae Gibson of Michigan City, MS; one godson, Willie (Lawanda) Hamer of Michigan City, MS; 7 grandchildren Kayleigh, Kaleb, Kemar, Kamron, Kingston, Karter, and Kalasia, all of New Albany, MS and one God-grandson, Tre Hamer of Michigan City, MS. She is also survived by three sisters, Malinda (Rally) Shield and Jeanette Hamer, both of Chicago, IL, and Marylean (Barry) Payne of Lamar, MS; and three brothers, L.B. (Arlean) Hamer, Cater (Mary) Hamer, and Troy Hamer, all of Michigan City, MS. She also leaves behind her best friend, Shelia Bullock, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
