Obituary

Thomas Caldwell, 71, transitioned Sunday, January 9, 2022, Baptist Hospital, New Albany, MS.

Mr. Thomas Lee Caldwell was born on September 8, 1950 to the late Mr. Fred Douglas Caldwell, Sr. and the late Mrs. Portia Magnolia Rutherford Caldwell. He departed this life on January 9, 2022 at Baptist Memorial Hospital Union County Emergency Room.

He was drafted into the United States Army in 1970 and served for two years. He left the army to be with his aging father. He attained the rank of Sargeant upon discharge.  Tom was an active member of the New Albany Army National Guard for twenty years.

On October 8, 1976, he was united in holy matrimony to Margaret Carroll. No children were born to this union. He had a step-daughter who he raised and loved very much.

Thomas was employed by Mohasco Furniture Manufacturing for seventeen years and later by Piper Impact for twenty-four years. He was a member of Palestine M.B. Church in Blue Mountain, MS.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Portia Caldwell, four brothers: Willie B. Caldwell, Fred Caldwell, Jr., Reuben Caldwell and Jimmy Caldwell, six sisters: Amy Black, Maxie Gates, Madgie Jumper, Madeline Keith, Doris Luster and Elizabeth Alexander, father-in-law and mother-in-law: David Carroll, Sr. and Junie B. Carroll, brother-in-law: David Carroll, Jr. and sister-in-law: Merris Carter.

Thomas leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of forty-five years: Margaret Carroll Caldwell, one step-daughter: Margaret Michelle (Corey) Mathis of Blue Mountain, MS, two grandchildren: Cameo (Jasmine) Mabry of Columbia, SC and Kayla Mabry of Blue Mountain, MS, seven great-grandchildren: Camylle Mabry, Kalel Mabry, Cassiel Mabry, Ayden Mabry, Brailon Jones, Ava Rice and Kylon Rice, one sister: Annette (Curtis) Gray of Blue Mountain, MS, sister-in-law, Velvet Caldwell of Tampa, FL, two first cousins who were raised in the home with him: Evelyn White of Racine, WI and Thomas Nelson Robinson of New Albany, MS, two god-daughters: Clorice Alexander and Joyce Gray, one special god-son: Christopher Lee Gray, a special daughter: Tiana, eight sisters-in-law: Mary Lipsey, Johnnie (Bishop Ray) Jackson, Christine (Jessie) Jones, Lucy Carroll and her friend Alvin Bails, Polly (Terry) Dentry, Stella (Thomas) Johnson, Loretta Gibbs, Jeanette Gibbs and Donna Gibbs, two brothers-in-law: Isaiah Carroll and Joe (Becky) Carroll, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m., at Flatswood Grove.
