Sarah Jane Whitlock, 71, of New Albany, MS, transitioned on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Oxford, MS
Sarah Jane Johnson Whitlock was born to Asalee Johnson and Rev. Tom Crockrell on April 8, 1953 in Holly Springs, MS. She professed her love for Christ at a young age. Sarah was a caring mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She left this world peacefully on May 6, 2024 at the age of 71. She was a member of Sanctuary Apostolic Church in New Albany, MS.
Sarah was educated in the Holly Springs school district. She was employed in the Laundry department at Graceland Nursing Home. Sarah enjoyed cooking, reading her Bible, being on her phone, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends. Sarah was a part of the Zesty Zeniors Group. She loved being in the meetings and sharing in the different activities. She was known as the "Bingo Queen" because she always had the winning cards.
To carry out her legacy and hold her wonderful memories near, she leaves her children; Jasper Whitlock, Jr. (Gwendolyn), Sharon Whitlock and Clasandra Whitlock (Steven), grandchildren; Jamecia Whitlock, Makaela Whitlock, Cakya Richard, Iliana Richard, Makyla Sanders and Mathias Sanders, one great grandchild; Nova Davis, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, her siblings; Pearlie Crum and Josephine Graham and Willie Crockrell, best friend; Gloria Washington, her former husband, Jasper Whitlock, Sr. other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Asalee Johnson and Rev. Tom Crockrell, her siblings; Houston Parker, Vera Parker, Asalee Johnson-Glover, Velton Johnson, Earline and Gerline Johnson, Eugene Penson, and granddaughter Makyla Whitlock.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 722 Coulter Drive, New Albany, MS 38652
Services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at The Sanctuary, 960 Highway 15 North, New Albany, MS 38652
Burial will take place at Gerizum Cemetery, in Myrtle, MS
