Samuel Louis Payton, Jr. "DaDa," was born on December 17, 1984, to the late Joanne Richmond Payton and the late Samuel Louis Payton, Sr., in Springfield, IL
Samuel confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined St. Paul C.M.E. Church, where he sang in the choir and attended Sunday School. He later united with the Hopewell #1 M.B. Church. He loved God, music and singing.
Samuel attended and graduated from Potts Camp Attendance Center, where he was known by his teachers and friends.
Some called him Jr., DaDa, DaDa Lee, Sam and Cupcake, but he was simply known by Daddy to his two children, whom he cherished deeply and who were the light of his life. Samuel's love for his children was unwavering.
Samuel departed this life on March 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion to his family. To cherish his memories are his two daughters, Rachel and Kristiana; his partner, Krystal Deberry; his siblings, Sheri Richmond, Samedra Quinn and Kevin Payton; his uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces, cousins and many other extended family members and loved ones.
Samuel's life touched many and he will be remembered for his love of family, his strength, and the joy he brought to those around him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit and love will live on in the hearts of his children, family, and all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Payton, his mother, Joanne Richmond, sister, Allegra, his paternal grandparents, Madora Rosie Payton and Joe L. Payton, his maternal grandparents, Mary Richmond and Ingram Richmond, along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
