Mary Linda Sanders Tyson of Taylor, Mississippi peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 12, 2024, at her residence.
Mary accepted Christ at an early age in her grandfather's church, known as Sanders Chapel. Mary attended school at Newell Elementary in Oxford before moving to Davenport, Iowa. After 30+ years, Mary returned to Mississippi where she became a member of North Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Taylor, Mississippi.
While in Iowa, Mary worked as a Chef at El Rancho restaurant and then later worked as a crane operator for Alcoa, where she retired after 30 years. Mary loved music and dancing, especially blues singer Tyrone Davis and nice cars. She was a great cook. Most will remember her as the person that introduced them to gambling! She also loved collecting dolls.
Mary leaves to cherish her loving memories her children; Willie Lee (Kathy) Tyson and Kenneth Tyson both of Keosauqua, IA, Teddy Ray Tyson of Bettendorf, IA, daughters; Julie Ann Brassell and Amelia Bates both of Taylor, MS, step-children; Jimmie Lee Bates, Jr., of Springfield, IL, Victor (Miangela) Bates of Louisville, KY, Latonya (Antonio) Henley of St. Louis, MO, brothers; Wes Sanders of Hunstville, AL, Ben Lee Sanders of Davenport, IA, sisters; Susan (Ray) Higgins of Oxford, MS, Jacqueline Sanders-
Prude of Taylor, MS, 26 grandchildren, 30+ great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Special grandchildren; Kahleb, Montavis, Ayanna, Malcolm, Shamari, and Laila of Taylor, MS, Caretaker, Regina Brassell. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; step-dad; Willie Allen, husband; Joe Willie Tyson, companion; Jimmie Lee Bates, daughter; Jolinda Tyson, brother; Willie Chris Sanders, sisters; Roxie Grady, Jenette Sanders, Charlene "Tea Cake" Sanders, and step-daughter; Carolyn Pearson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Service will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 294 Highway 7 North, Oxford, MS 38655.
