Mrs. Betty Jean Parks, 81, of Myrtle, MS, transitioned on Monday, January 15, 2024, at her residence.

Honoring the life and legacy of Betty Jean Parks, who entered this world on December 10, 1942,  as the fourth of eight siblings born to Isaiah and Ruth Johnson in Pontotoc, MS. Her journey of faith began early, embracing Christ during her family's church gatherings. A devoted member of Ecru Second Baptist Church in Ecru, MS, Betty was joined in Holy Matrimony with Charles Parks on September 16, 1993, leading her to Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Myrtle, MS. Throughout the years, her unwavering dedication to both churches manifested in her selfless service across various church auxiliaries.

Betty's infectious smile and kind words defined her presence. Family, the cornerstone of her life, brought her joy through shared laughter, jokes, and cherished moments. Gardening, culinary creations, and the warmth of family bonds were her passions. As a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she remained a steadfast pillar of support. For over 30 years, Betty contributed her dedication to Action Industries in Pontotoc, MS, leaving an unforgettable mark on her professional journey. Her legacy is eternally imprinted on the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have known her. Betty's enduring faith in God, unwavering integrity, and deep love for her family will forever be remembered and cherished.

On January 15, 2024, the Lord called home his faithful servant, Betty Jean Parks, peacefully at her Myrtle, MS residence, surrounded by the love of her devoted husband, Charles Parks.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Charles Parks of Myrtle, MS; daughter, Denise Cullens (Thomas) of Ecru, MS; son, Freddie Traylor (Eloise) of Blue Mountain, MS; daughter, Rena Dixon (David) of Ecru, MS. She leaves behind nine grandchildren: Jeffery Traylor, Will Traylor (Chasity), T.J. Cullens, Xavier Cullens, Jayla Traylor, Chris Gibson, Preston Dixon, and Addison Dixon. Additionally, six great-grandchildren: Rayn Naugle, Hyland Traylor, Kylar Cullens, Kylee Berry, Kenzlee Berry, and Kaylee Berry. Betty is also survived by two brothers: Raymond Johnson of Chicago, IL and Steve Johnson of Ecru, MS; two sisters, Vivian Gordon of Ecru, MS, and Bonnie Pinson of Aurora, IL, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Isaiah and Ruth Johnson; son, Jeff Traylor; grandson, Thomas Xavier Cullens; granddaughters, Courtney Yager and Betty Rena Cullens; and sisters, Marilyn Johnson, Carrie Nell Gates, and Mable Gordon.

Services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Ecru Second Baptist Church, 350 Central Avenue, Ecru, MS  38841.  

Body will lie in state one hour prior to service time.

Burial will take place at Cherry Creek M.B. Church Cemetery, Ecru, MS.

Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany, MS.
