Mother Laura Frances Strickland, 85, transitioned on Friday, August 1, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital, Memphis, TN.
Mrs. Laura Frances Strickland was born on February 12, 1940, to the late William Henry Jackson and Carrie Carolina Robinson Jackson in Michigan City, MS. On Friday, August 1, 2025, she transitioned at Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Laura accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Samuel Chapel M.B. Church in Ashland, MS. She served on the Mother’s Board and choir. Laura was a graduate of Old Salem High School. She was also a graduate of Rust College in Holly Springs, MS.
Laura was employed as a school teacher at ICS Head Start in Benton County, MS.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, singing, driving, and traveling.
Laura leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters: Betty Jackson Sellers (Bernard) of Chicago, IL, Donna Jackson of Memphis, TN, and Francine Strickland Hodges of Lamar, MS; one brother: James E. Jackson of Lamar, MS; one sister: Ruthie L. Jackson of Chicago, IL; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other family members, and friends.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents: William Henry Jackson and Carrie Carolina Robinson Jackson; husband: Freddie B. Strickland; one daughter: Pearlie Jackson Swann; two brothers: Henry T. Jackson and William A. Jackson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home, 140 N. Memphis St., Holly Springs, MS 38635.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Samuel Chapel M.B. Church, 20561 Highway 5, Ashland, MS 38603.
Body will lie in state one hour before service.
Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
