Mother Earnestine Ivy, 94, of New Albany, MS, transitioned on Friday, November 24, 2023, at her residence.
Ernestine Pulliam Ivy was born on March 5, 1929 to the late Pink and Annie Pulliam in Union County, New Albany, Mississippi. She was a devoted housewife to Willie Troy Ivy for 48 years. To this union 10 children; 5 boys and 5 girls were born. Birdie Mae Graham, Mary Joyce Graham, William Troy Ivy, Bettie Lou Shumpert, CW (Roberta) Ivy, Leona Pratt, Marie (Lee) Satterwhite, and Andrew Ivy.
Affectionately known as "Mamateen," she was loved by many. She served many years in her church-United House of Prayer church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Cottonplant, MS. She loved the Lord, praying for others and telling about the goodness of the LORD. She had a passion for writing poems and songs, and also enjoyed cooking and baking. Mamateen loved to gather around the kitchen table on Fridays with her children and family for family dinner-prepared by her daughter, Mary Joyce. She also had a special love for children and babysat and reared many children of various ages and races.
Mamateen is survived by nine of her children, one sister, Annette Adams, one special friend, who was sure to keep her stocked with bottled water-Steve Bostick, one special ''grandson," who loved her like she was his own-Octavious Brown, and a host of family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son; Christopher Ivy, one godson; LC Conner, three sisters; Jewdean Newton, Verlean Ragland, and Ruby Alexander, three brothers; Noverta Pulliam, Cecil Pulliam, and Sonny Pulliam; four sons-in-law; Johnny Pratt, James Roy Shumpert, WC Graham, and Willie C Graham, one daughter-in-law; Etera Ivy, one grandson; Leondrick Satterwhite, two great grandsons; Chaeandric Graham and Eli Jones, and one great granddaughter; Ta'Kya Jones.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., and Services will be at 1:00 p.m., at United House of Prayer Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, 1750 County Road 825, Blue Mountain, MS 38610.
Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
