Mother Earline Douglas, 91, transitioned on Monday, November 20, 2023, at her residence in Georgetown, TX.
On August 9, 1932, in Pontotoc, MS, God blessed Izola Lovlyn Hughes Bolton (Big Mama) and her husband, William Gilmore Bolton (Big Daddy), with a beautiful and very special baby girl, Earline Bolton. She professed a faith in Christ at an early age and lived a life committed to Him for the rest of her days. She was a faithful member of Naylor Chapel C.M.E. Church, and she later joined East Baptist Church, founded by her late grandfather, Rev. J.C. Hughes in Pontotoc, MS. While at East Baptist, she was very active as Usher Board president and was instrumental in organizing the Adult and Youth Ushers. She was also a member of the Culinary staff at East Baptist. Even outside of church, she cooked countless meals and her specialty desserts wherever she resided, which brightened lives throughout her time on this earth. In 2005, she moved to Humble, TX, and joined Inspire Church where she served in the Communion Ministry. In 2021, she moved to Georgetown, TX, Earline joined and faithfully worshiped at Macedonia Baptist Church, where she was in the Missionary Society and very active in the mid-week Bible Study, until her death at the age of 91.
During her working years in Pontotoc, she was an entrepreneur and had her own dress boutique, catering business, and janitorial service. She worked for most of her life at Ram Golf and at Wal-Mart where she enriched many lives. After retiring, she devoted most of her life to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed regular visits with family in Chicago, IL. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. In her final days, her great grandson Bobby, brought her enormous joy, laughter, and peace. Her legacy is one of determination and love. Her steadfastness and faithfulness to church and family will always remain in the hearts of everyone's lives she has touched. She lived her convictions. everyone who was blessed and privileged to know her, will forever remember her strength, quick wit, and elegant sense of style.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Jessie Lee Douglas, and two sons Don and Gene. To cherish her memories Earline is survived by her children; Beverly, Janice, Sandra, Marilyn and Kerry, one brother; Willie Irving (Sarah) Bolton of Milwaukee, WI, two sons-in-law; Augustus and Jim, daughter-in-law; Dorothy, eighteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, special friends; Ruby Penson, Caitlin Ali, Maxine and Evadine Swafford, Pastor and Mrs. Jimmy Johnson and the Macedonia church family, Vern Walker, Yolanda Adams, Mary Beasley. cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at East Baptist Church, 340 Clark Street, Pontotoc, MS 38863.
Burial will take place at Pontotoc City Cemetery, Pontotoc, MS.
