Mother Dorareen Franklin Obituary

Mother Dorareen Eubanks Franklin, 93, transitioned on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at her residence in Pontotoc, MS.

"Yes we are fully confident and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the LORD." - 2 Corinthians 5:8

Dorareen Eubanks Franklin was born Monday, October 5, 1931 in Pontotoc County, MS to Frank Eubanks and Lucille Rogers Eubanks. "Doe" as she was called, was the oldest of three children. In 1949, Dorareen married her love, Tom Melford Franklin. To this union seven children were born; Deej, Katherine, Betty, Larry, Earnest, Regina and Debra.

Dorareen accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Later, joining Salem now New Salem Baptist Church. Doe was a regular, active, faithful, loyal and supportive member until her health declined. She was a member for many years and served in the choir, a member of the "Never Grow Old" Ministry and the Mother's Board. She was the oldest member. Being the oldest member didn't stop her in their exercise period. She was the one of the ones who could put her hands on the floor without bending her knees. Dorareen was a faithful, loving, hard-working, funny woman. She gave so much of herself to others. Never asking for anything in return. That was just who she was. She was a GREAT cook, loved sewing, making quilts, and worked diligently beside her husband growing pretty much every vegetable you can name and the best watermelons in the state. She worked a short while at Tupelo Manufacturing, then started working for Hancock Fabrics where she retired after 20 years.

To remember and cherish her memories are her children; Deej Franklin-Gamble,  of San Leandro, CA, Katherine Perkins of Tupelo, MS, Betty Franklin of Memphis, TN, Larry Franklin, Earnest Franklin, Regina Franklin and Debra Franklin all of Pontotoc, MS, a bonus son; Aamil Franklin also of Pontotoc, MS, eleven grandchildren, nine great and fifteen great-great grandchildren, one brother; Bobby (Ruby) Eubanks of Shannon, MS, five sisters-in-law; James Anna Franklin of Pontotoc, MS, Sarah Brown of Tupelo, MS, Esther Franklin of Wichita, KS, Bertha Franklin of Oxford, MS, and Ruby Eubanks of Shannon, MS, one brother-in-law; James Franklin of Wichita, KS, special friend; Deloris Crump of Pontotoc, MS, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Melford Franklin, parents and a sister; Flora Eubanks Holman.
