Mother Audrey Lee Cook, 91, transitioned on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at her residence in Taylor, MS.


Audrey Lee (Martin) Cook was born January 20, 1932, in Taylor, MS, to Hargis & Lorenza (Jackson) Martin. Audrey received her Heavenly Wings on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

Audrey attended school in the Taylor School System. At an early age, she united with North Hopewell M. B. Church and remained a faithful and dedicated member until her transition. She was a dedicated Church Mother of North Hopewell. 

On April 8, 1950, in Taylor, MS, Audrey was united in marriage to Rodell Cook. They were married for 45 years before he transitioned in 1995.

Audrey was a God-Fearing Woman who loved the Lord. She was well known for her quick wit and her funny sense of humor. She raised not only her nine children but some of her grandchildren and other community children. Back in the day, she was the neighborhood babysitter. Audrey loved her family and her church, especially her Pastor and First Lady, Rev. Jamuel & Sister Laverne Johnson. Audrey was a fancy dresser, often seen with a hat to match her outfit. Her favorite church hymns were Amazing Grace, Near The Cross, and I’ll Fly Away. She loved watching Wheel of Fortune, wrestling, and fishing.

Audrey leaves to cherish her precious memories: Her Children:  Mary T. Winston, Kenosha, WI; Minnie Jackson, Racine, WI; Robert (Emma) Cook; Tupelo, MS; Dorothy Cook, Jackson, MS; Sharon Cook; Racine, WI; Min. Kenneth Cook and Darnell Cook, both of Taylor, MS; Siblings: Bishop Martin, Garnett Oliver, Hervie Martin, Varnell (Howard) Owens, Doris (Bennie) Smith. Grandchildren:  Stephen Martin, Brandi Jackson, Timothy Cook, Kimberly (Curtis) Huggins, Rodney (Keia) Cook, Jeremy (Candies) Cook, Lakeshia Cook, Kerry Cook, Kiera Lockridge, Brandon Williams, Korrey Cook, and Cameron Cook. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, one aunt, one Sister-in-Law, and many other relatives and special friends.  She is preceded in death by her Husband; her Parents;  Children: Selina Atchison and Loretta Agnew; Grandchildren: Dante Jackson, Jennifer Pettigrew, Derrick Cook; Siblings: Ouima (David) Cox; Hargis Martin, Jr., John Wesley (Ruth) Martin, James Martin, Grover (Bertha) Martin; 6 Sisters-in-Law and Brothers-in-Law.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 294 Highway 7 North, Oxford, MS 38655.

Services will be held at Saturday at March 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at North Hopewell M.B. Church, 11County Road 349, Taylor, MS 38673.

Burial will take place at Yocona Cemetery in Taylor, MS.
