Mrs. Mona Lisa Sumbry Davis, 60, transitioned on Satutrday, June 13, 2020 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany. She was born on June 25, 1959 in Gary, IN, to the late Joseph and Christine Sumbry, lifelong residents of Gary, IN. Mona Lisa was the 6th child born to this union. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age.
Mona Lisa graduated from West Side High School in Gary, IN in 1978. She started her secretarial career in Gary, IN, where she worked for two different law firms for Attorney Anderson and J. Maurice Patton for many years before moving to Detroit, Michigan, where she used her excellent skills to further her career. She later moved back to Gary, IN, where she met Tyrone Davis in 2009. They got married on August 8, 2010. They moved to Cincinnati, Ohio in 2016 and then moved to New Albany, MS in 2018.
Lisa was full of life. She loved singing and traveling. She was the "Superstar" of the family (Mona Lisa). She lived Hollywood in her mind. Lisa was very well known and liked by so many and she gave her love freely to those who loved her. She was a devoted wife, who truly loved her husband. She was a good friend, always giving advice and words of wisdom. She was a mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and so much more. She will truly be missed.
Mona Lisa was a member of the Pleasant Grove M.B. Church for the past two years under the leadership of Pastor Ronnie Driver. We would like to Thank Pastor Driver for being so supportive during this time of need.
She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband: Tyrone Davis. One stepson: Tyrone Johnson. One brother: Joseph Sumbry, Jr, of Cincinnati, OH. Three sisters: DeBorah Abdulmateen Sumbry of New Port, VA, Pamela Sumbry of Cincinnati, OH and Troylanda Williams of Gary, IN. A god-daughter: April Johnson. A special friend: Beverly Bridgeman and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents: Joseph and Christine Sumbry. Her only child, a son: Martell Sumbry. Three sisters: Michelle Sumbry Jordan, Geraldine Boulding and Donna Sumbry. One nephew: Corey Sumbry and a beloved uncle: Lewis H. Johnson.
Visitation will be on Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 3-6p.m. at Serenity-Simmons Funeral Home Chapel. Serenity-Simmons Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
