Mary L Atkinson

Mrs. Mary L. Atkinson, 81, transitioned on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, MS.

Mary Lewis Atkinson was born August 14, 1942 in Brownsville, Tennessee to Anthony Lewis and  Francis Liggin Lewis. She transitioned from this life Thursday, October 12, 2023  at North MS Medical Center, Tupelo, MS.

Mary was a  strong, loving, independent woman who loved her family and taking care of  her grandchildren, She was a "Second Mom" to many. She also enjoyed farming, cooking, and her game shows, Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right. Mary was employed at MS Eaton Co. in Pontotoc for 24 years, She was a true dedicated worker on her job.

Mary was married to Willie Frank Atkinson, Sr.  for nearly 60 years. She cared for him through disability and death. Mary was truly a dedicated wife until the end.

To cherish her memories she leaves her sons; Willie Frank Atkinson, Jr.  Roger Lee Atkinson,  Wayne Atkinson and Tyrone Atkinson all of Houlka, MS, daughters; Una Francis Atkinson Below (Charles), Annie Buggs (Michael), Scholonda Jean Atkinson and Racheal Lee Green all of Houlka, MS, one step-daughter, Mary Louise Atkinson of Kalamazoo, MI,  A host of grandchildren and  great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Francis Lewis, her husband, Willie Frank Atkinson, Sr., and her brother Matt Lewis. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 248 Highway 15 South, Pontotoc, MS 38863

Services will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, 12 Noon, at Gorgon Chapel COGIC, 198 County Road 9, Houlka, MS  38850

Burial will take place at Wesley Chapel Cemetery, 1841 Highway 15 North, Houston, MS  38851
