Marshall "Bossy" Malone Obituary

Marshall "Bossy"  Malone, 90, transitioned on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Collierville, TN

Marshall Malone was born on November 19, 1933, to his loving parents, the late Roosevelt and Coyal Payne-Malone. He was deeply cherished as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Marshall peacefully entered his heavenly home on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, TN.

Marshall was widely recognized in the community by the nickname "Bossy”. A name that suited his dignified and commanding presence. He was highly regarded as the community historian, with people from near andfar seeking his expertise in uncovering their family history.

Marshall had a successful career as a concrete finisher for Jimmy Edward and Son Construction Company before retiring. He had a deep understanding and mastery of the art of concrete finishing. After retiring, he prioritized spending Tuesday mornings at the Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church in Victoria, MS, with his close-knit group of Prayer Warrior friends. He dutifully showed up at his beloved home church, Newell Chapel CME Church, on Sunday mornings. Silently, he would settle into the rear row pew, nodding in agreement with the message and frequently offering a sincere "Amen."  On Sunday, August 4, 2024, Marshall sat in his usual back seat pew as he made his final entry into his local church. He was a dedicated member, supporter and fundraiser for both the Prayer Warriors and Newell Chapel Church.

Marshall was united in holy wedlock to Esther Elizabeth Hamm-Malone on August 31, 1957, they were married 37 years before her departure on June 12, 1996. Together, they were blessed with six children: Marilyn Malone, Victoria, MS; Perry Malone, Olive Branch, MS; Lorenzo Malone (Elois); Olive Branch, MS/Eads, TN; Margie Neal (Michael deceased) Collierville, TN; Natalie Hankins (James)Byhalia, MS; and Rodney Malone (JoAnn) Victoria, MS.

Marshall will forever be cherished by his loving two sisters, Naomi Malone of Victoria, MS, and Omega Larkins (Major) of West Point, MS, his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends. Marshall also leaves his three sisters-in-law, Shirley Hamm, Anner Gatewood, and Katie McCrary (Ken) Marshall was preceded in death by two of his sisters Lola Smith, and Vennie C. Jones.

Marshall was also known for his exceptional hosting skills, particularly when it came to family fish fries and holiday events. He always took pleasure in engaging in conversations with friends and loved ones on his flip-phone and finding solace in his lawn chair, occasionally sharing his assertive guidance and recommendations in between his moments of naps. He had a passion for farming and was renowned for growing the finest greens in town. He had a strong passion for sports and was a devoted fan of the Memphis Tigers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Memphis Grizzles. He found great pleasure in spending his time relaxing in his recliner, indulging in rerun episodes of Gun Smoke, Texas Ranger, and In the Heat of the Night.

Bossy will be deeply missed by his loved ones and the friends he made in his community.
