Mae Lean Brooks

Ms. Mae Lean Brooks, 85, transitioned on Monday, December 29, 2025.

Mae Lean (Jones) Brooks was born on September 7, 1940, within the Isom Chapel Community and was the second child born to the late Clem & Arrie Mae (Hughes) Jones. She passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Dee’s Place Hospice Home in Cordova TN.

She accepted her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ at an early age, as a member of Isom Chapel CME Church.

She attended Gatewood Rural School until the 8th grade; grades 9-12, she attended St. Mary Catholic School in Holly Springs, MS until graduation.

She attended Mississippi Industrial College for one year, however after the birth of her first child she married Richard Brooks and moved to Brooklyn, New York. To this union two additional children were born.

She later moved to Memphis TN, where she worked her way through the ranks to Manager of 7/11, Mapco Express Stores, until her Retirement.

Mae Lean was a quiet & private lady who enjoyed spending time at home.

She is preceded in death by her sisters:  Paulette (Jones) Mayes, Mary Alice Nabors Perry; brothers:  Willie Melvin Jones, Columbus Jones and Chester Jones.

Mae Lean’s memories will be cherished by her two sons: Lavern Jones of Holly Springs, MS, Ronny Brooks of Memphis, TN; daughter: Angeline Brooks of Memphis, TN; nine sisters: Alean Gatewood, Jeanette Isom, Gloria Washington, Annette Tucker (Lawrence) all of Holly Springs, MS; Jessie Mae Davis, Jimmie Ella Wallace (Larry), Annie Sue Walker (Floyd), Elizabeth Nabors, Minnie Lee Luellen (Harry) all of Memphis TN; one brother: Christopher Jones of Memphis, TN; three grandchildren: Danielle, Kenyatta and Zoltan, two  great grandchildren: Zachary Amorah, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 140 N. Memphis St., Holly Springs, MS  38635.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Isom Chapel C.M.E. Church, 1436 Isom Chapel Road, Holly Springs, MS  38635.

Body will lie in state one hour before service time.

Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
