Mr. Leroy Buford, 77, transitioned on Thursday, May, 26, 2022, North MS Medical Center, Tupelo, MS.
Leroy Buford, Jr. was born to the late Earl Gunn and Jennie D. Banks on September 7, 1944 in Memphis, TN. God called him home May 26, 2022 to be part of his holy kingdom.
Leroy was married to his ex-wife, Evylene Stacy for 19 years. Four children were born to this union. Years later, he was married to Mattie Faye Johnson Buford who passed away June 2011. Leroy was an outstanding man who dedicated his life to his children. He was a family man and took pride in the fact that God blessed him in such a magnificent way to be able to provide and support his family, whom he cherished. In his early years, Leroy was employed at Merchants Truck Line working on the docking bay. He also was employed at Futorian Furniture Manufacturing working on the line pulling springs. He eventually retired from Hill Craft furniture.
Leroy's legacy will forever be cherished by his sons: Stanley Stacy (Sharon), Christopher Buford (Angelia) and Kenneth Buford (Angela), one daughter: Tonya Clay (William), brothers: Rev. Larry Banks (Sandra) of Memphis, TN, Billy Gunn, Roger Gunn, Rev. Stanley Gunn, all of Memphis, TN, Jeffrey Gunn of Hartford, CT, John Gunn of Willimantic, CT, sisters: Mary E. Seiber (James, III), and Shelia I. Gunn, one aunt; Ruth Gatling of Youngstown, OH, twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mattie F. Johnson Buford, three brothers; James Rutherford, Charles Buford and Kenneth Gunn and two sisters; Vernita Banks, and Carolyn Rutherford.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 4, 2022, 9:00 a.m., and Service will be at 11:00 a.m., at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church, 1010 CR 91, New Albany, MS.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
