Rev. Leon Harris, Jr., 82, of New Albany, MS, transitioned on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, New Albany, MS.
Leon Harris, Jr., was born on April 21, 1943 to the late Leon and Lucille Burnett Harris, Sr. in Holly Ridge, MS. Leon was the second child of 7 siblings.He was preceded in death by his parents; Leon, Sr. and Lucille Harris, three siblings; Mary Stovall, Linda Hardy, Bobbie Gilmore, and one daughter, Beatrice Fields. Leon moved to Chicago, Il in September of 1953. He attended Chicago public schools. Leon graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1961. He was employed at Daniel Forbes Leather Company.
Leon confessed a belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Dr. JE Hopkins at New Nazareth MB church in Chicago, IL. Leon was a member of the Inspirational Choir and served on the Junior Deacon Board.
Leon was united in holy matrimony to Faye Sharper and to this union 1 child was born, Juanita Harris. In 1980, he married Leona Kimmons, they relocated to Holly Springs, MS. To this union they were blessed with one son; Lawrence Harris.
For a short time he pastored Mount Zion CME Church and Armstead Chapel CME Church. He later relocated to New Albany and became a member of Beaver Dam MB Church under the leadership of Rev. Carl R. Dozier.
Leon loved singing in the choir, his grandchildren, fishing, playing softball and watching old Western movies.
Answering the call of our heavenly Father, Leon took an eternal flight on Friday May 2, 2025. He leaves to cherish his fondest memories 4 children; Barbara (Thoyce) Buckner, Teri (Baron) Williams, Juanita (Darrin, Sr.) Ames, Lawrence (Quaneisha) Harris, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grand-children, 3 sisters; Helen Akons, Ethel (Charles) Williams, and Betty (Earl) Williamson, one aunt, Annette Neal,one uncle, Theodore Burnett (Addie) a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Life-long friends; Harold Hamler, Rita Moore and Nora of Chicago, IL.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at Beaver Dam M.B, Church, 836 County Road 115, New Albany, MS 38652.
Body will lie in state one hour before the service.
Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
