On April 30, 2026, the world lost a true free spirit when Judith Brandon-Buntyn, 73, passed away peacefully at her home in Hickory Flat, MS.
Born on September 30, 1952, in Hattiesburg, MS, Judith grew up with a bold heart and an adventurous soul. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reginald and Marcia Brandon, and her siblings David, Gene, and Cindy-each of whom shaped the strong, independent woman she became.
Judith leaves behind her sister, Margaret Brandon Johnson; her sons, Justin (Cammie) and Joshua; her grandsons, Zachary (Britney) and Hunter; her step-grandson, Caleb; and the great-granddaughter she was so excited to meet this May. Her family was her anchor, no matter how far her travels took her.
Judith lived life on her own terms. She wandered across California and Texas before settling in Terlingua, where she spent more than twenty years embracing desert sunsets, wide-open skies, and the off-grid life she loved. She rode horses, rafted the Rio Grande, camped under the stars, and built a home powered by sunshine and rainwater. Her sons lovingly called her a "free-spirited hippie," and she wore that title with pride.
She loved her people fiercely, made friends everywhere she went, and carried a warmth that made others feel welcome. Her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her.
A private memorial will be held later in Hattiesburg, MS. Those wishing to honor her may send memorials to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to a charity of their choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home of Holly Springs, MS.
