Mr. Jimmy D. Cathey, 56, transitioned on Friday, April 25, 2025, at his residence in Myrtle, MS.
Jimmy D. Cathey was born on January 6, 1969, in Potts Camp, Mississippi, to the late Mr. Clarence H. Cathey Jr. and the late Mrs. Lovie Holt Cathey. He accepted Christ at an early age and attended Royston Chapel CME Church. Jimmy received his education in the Benton County, Mississippi, school system.
He had a passion for the outdoors and spent much of his free time fishing, hunting, and enjoying his family. Jimmy was united in holy matrimony to Mary Joyce Martin of Holly Springs, Mississippi, on June 3, 1989. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Amandy V. Martin of Knoxville, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Percy L. Holt and Eddie W. Cathey.
He leaves to cherish his memory: His loving wife, Mary Joyce Cathey, one devoted daughter, Amandy V. Martin, two precious grandsons, Tavari’a Allen and Tavarion Allen, four sisters: Mary L. Evans (C.W.) of Ashland, MS; Mattie Woods (Keith) of New Albany, MS; Bobbie Martin of Blue Mountain, MS; and Leigh Cathey of Huntsville, AL, two brothers: Wendell Cathey (Paula) of Leavenworth, KS, and Robert Cathey of Ashland, MS, two brothers-in-law: Joe Martin of West Memphis, AR; and Mark Martin of Memphis, TN, a very dear Step-Mother,Verdia Cathey of Ashland, MS. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will remember him fondly
Jimmy will be remembered for his love, his laughter, and the unshakable bond he shared with all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Serenity Funeral Home, 723 Coulter Drive, New Albany, MS 38652.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Serenity Funeral Home, New Albany, MS 38652.
Burial will take place at Royston Chapel C.M.E. Church Cemetery in Potts Camp, MS.
