James "Jr" Blake

Mr. James "Jr" Blake, 89, of Abbeville, MS, transitioned on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Holly Springs Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.

James “Jr” Blake was born September 10, 1935, to the late Callie Mae Certian Hillard and Eugene Blake, in Lafayette County, MS.

On Saturday, March 8, 2025, James transitioned from this earthly life at Holly Springs Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, in Holly Springs, MS.

James accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, in Abbeville, MS, under the leadership of Pastor Sandra Wilson. He was an active member of the Steward Board, loved sitting on his porch, loved his family and driving his red car.

James leaves to cherish his loving memories, his wife of 65 plus years: Minnie Jones Blake of Abbeville, MS; five brothers: Johnnie Blake (Janis) of Flint, MI, Terry Blake (Donna) of Water Valley, MS, Willie Hillard and Larry Hillard both of Oxford, MS, and Leonard Hillard of Milwaukee, WI; five sisters: Mary Jones, Erma Webb and Ora Hoskins (Kenneth) all of Oxford, MS, Minnie Blake and Teretha Scott, both of Flint, MI; brother-in-law: Frank Jones (Joetta) of Abbeville, MS; sister-in-law: Bernice Jones of Memphis, TN;  special caregivers: Marcus Webb, nephew and Erica Bowie, niece both of Abbeville, MS and Kareem Jones, nephew of Oxford, MS, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends to cherish his memory.

James was preceded in death by his loving parents: Callie Mae Certian Hillard and Eugene Blake, and stepmother, Dela Blake; four brothers: Robert Blake, Fred Blake, Wade Hillard and David Hillard; three sisters: Bernell Hiler, Bobby Toles and Betty Mitchell.

Services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Providence United Methodist Church, 126 County Road 108, Abbeville, MS 38601.

Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
