James "Squirrel" Al Holbrook, 72, of Holly Springs, MS, transitioned on Sunday, February 1, 2026.
James “Squirrel” Holbrook (Al) was born January 26, 1954, in Holly Springs, MS, to the late James Asa Holbrook and Annis Lyle Fretwell Holbrook. On Sunday, February 1, 2026, he quietly and peacefully answered the master’s call and went to live in peace with the Lord.
At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of First Baptist Church, Holly Springs, MS; where he was a bus driver, participated in vacation Bible school and was a part of the sanctuary class. He was a graduate of Holly Springs High Class of 1974. He was a retired shipping receiver clerk at Parker Hanifan, and a Holly Springs Firefighter for 42 years.
“Squirrel” as he was affectionately called, loved horses, Nascar Racing, camping, fishing; his favorite College Football team was the Ole Miss Rebels, and his favorite NFL team was the Seattle Seahawks.
“Squirrel” was preceded in death by his father and mother: James Asa Holbrook and Annis Lyle Fretwell Holbrook: two brothers: Loren Eugene Holbrook and Mark Holbrook.
He leaves to cherish his memories, wife: Susan Holbrook of Holly Springs, MS; stepson: Taylor Humphrey (Ivy) of Holly Springs, MS; two sisters: Ramona Holbrook Warren (Danny) of Nettleton, MS and Katherine (Katie) Holbrook of Holly Springs, MS; three grandchildren: Bentlee Hale, Jake Humphrey and Jaxson Humphrey, all of Holly Springs, MS; two nieces: Tish Thompson (Brad) of Gordonsville, TN, Melissa Warren Criddle (Quay) of Brewer, MS; one nephew: Josh Holbrook of Holly Springs, MS; one aunt: Nell H. Means of Puckett, MS; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 140 N. Memphis St., Holly Springs, MS 38635.
Body will lie in state one hour before service time.
Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Holly Springs, MS 38635.
