Mrs. Eller Mae Usher Givhan, 81, transitioned on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at North MS Medical Center, in Tupelo, MS.
Eller Mae Usher Givhan, the fourth child born to FC and Pearlie Mae Usher, born and raised in Bruce, Mississippi. She was welcomed into the Usher household by her older siblings Alice Marie, Willie Author and WC Usher. She later became big sister to Eldrice and Jacqueline Usher.
Eller attended Bruce Elementry and Bruce Middle in Bruce, Mississippi. The family later moved to Pontotoc, Mississippi where she joined Usher Valley Church and she attended Pontotoc Attendance Center. She met the love of her life at church and six months later she married Cecil Ray Givhan on December 22, 1961. Cecil Ray enlisted in the US Army and she remained at home to complete her education. She graduated high school in 1963.
She gave birth to Donna Michelle in 1964 and to Robbie Rushell in 1971. While tending and raising her family, Eller worked at Pontotoc Cleaners, Ram Golf, Pontotoc Springs and retired from First Choice Bank in 2019.
Over the years, Eller served at her church Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, in the local chapter of Heroines of Jericho Court 22 and served as a Girl Scout leader for many years. She served on the board of Tupelo Girl Scout Council and served on the Pontotoc Housing Authority Board (HUD) from July 1983 until her date of death.
One of Eller’s favorite past time hobbies was watching and following all sports. She loved her Pontotoc Warrior! She followed all high school games; basketball, baseball, football. She was a sideline coach and referee. Saturdays and Sundays were dedicated for watching games on television. It was best not to call her when a game was on! Her favorite team was the always the winning team.
In her early years, she played softball for Ram Golf. She would periodically get in the yard and pitch to the great grands. Other past time hobbies she enjoyed was walking, playing spades and being a front seat navigator on all road trips. She loved family road trips.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 63 years Cecil R. Givhan. Daughters: Donna Michelle Givhan-Boone (Pontotoc, MS) and Robbie R. Givhan-Spearman (Millington, TN). Grandsons: Raymon Boone of Pontotoc, MS, Jeremy (Ebony) Boone of Tupelo, MS, Nick Boone of New Albany, MS, Skylar (Carole) Spearman of Cordova, TN and grandson of the heart Terrell Lindsey. Great Grandsons: Jay Boone of New Albany, MS, Cam Boone of Ponototoc, MS and Lincoln Spearman of Cordova, TN. Sister and best friend Jacqueline Usher-Lee of Pontotoc, MS. Newphews/Brothers: Derrick Usher of Rienzi, MS and best friend Jacqueline Usher-Lee of Pontotoc, MS. Newphews/Brothers: Derrick Usher of Rienzi, MS and Dewayne Usher of Ocean Springs, MS). Very special nephew: O’Neal Usher of Pontotoc, MS and Great Aunt Oberia Lipsey of Pontotoc, MS. In Laws: Rosie Usher of Atlanta, GA, Mattie Usher of Bruce, MS, Leodis Givhan-Rutherford of Southaven, MS, Hazel McBride-Harrell of Pontotoc, MS, Cora Ford-Ingram of Grenada, MS, William (Bessie) Givhan of Pontotoc, MS, Sam (Debbie) Givhan of Monticello, AR and John Givhan of Ponotoc, MS. A host of cousins, nieces and nephews in the Givhan, Hatchett and Usher family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; FC Usher (1977) and Pearlie Usher (1993). Siblings Alice Marie (1960), Willie Usher (2008), WC Usher (2013) and Eldrice Usher (2020) and grandsons Hunter & Storm Spearman (1994)
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 248 Highway 15 South, Pontotoc, MS 38863
Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2:30 p.m., at Usher Valley United Methodist Church, 754 Moorman Road, Pontotoc, MS 38863
Burial will take place at Pontotoc City Cemetery, Pontotoc, MS
