Dorothy Strong Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy L. Strong, 75, transitioned Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at North MS Medical Center, Tupelo, MS.

Dorothy Lee McAlister Strong was born October 28, 1949 to Robert Lee McAlister and Carrie Mae Black McAlister in New Albany, MS. Growing up, she was always told how smart she was and had natural-born leadership qualities. She was the "go-to" person in the family. As an adult, she met and married her husband, Willie Spencer Strong, Sr. They remained married for 47 years until her Heavenly Transition. Together they reared three children in the home while being parents to six as an extended family. Dorothy was a very hard worker. You can ask anyone that had the pleasure of working with and/or beside her at the various positions in her places of employment. She was an overcomer and a SURVIVOR. She was, as some would say, a "Walking Miracle. She accomplished many of the goals she set for herself. Her saying was "It's never too late to learn something. You just have to put your mind to it and work hard for it."  She stated, on numerous occasions, that if she had the opportunity when she was younger, she definitely would have gone to school to study Interior Design, and if  you ever had the pleasure of being invited inside our home, you definitely would have hired her for the job.

Not only was she a great interior designer, she was an amazing seamstress. Her skill set and talents seemed endless. She was a caretaker and technician when needed. She was a GREAT COOK! Her house was mostly always, the focal point of many celebratory dinners or cookouts. She always had a listening ear when you needed it. She was an advice giving person. (Wanted and unwanted at times.) She enjoyed music, dancing, playing spades and her Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. Dorothy was also a GREAT housewife, a loving person, a good friend and neighbor. Our house was IMMACULATE and ALWAYS looked "Heiling Meyers," "Room to Room," Good Housekeeping magazine ready." It was the epitome of the house when people said, "You could eat off these floors." While our matriarch would love all these accolades, she would tell you that what she loved the most was family.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband; Willie Strong, Sr. children; Veronica "Yvette" McAlister, Seatharron McAlister and Monica Strong all of New Albany, MS and god-daughter; Sheila Mosley-Horne (Derek) of Philadelphia, PA, Jackie Strong, Willie Strong, Jr. and Ronald Strong of New Albany, Tupelo, MS area, siblings; Charlotte M. Beard of Flint, MI, Patricia Oliver of Racine, WI, Angernitter Glass of Flint, MI and James McAlister of Tupelo, MS, sister-in-love Nelda Roboson, brother-in-love Fon Strong, Jr of New Albany, MS, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Samantha McAlister (Samara Phillips), Amber McAlister (Blaze Adkins and Ava-Skye Adkins) D'Von Hill of New Albany, MS, Christopher Horne/Rachel (Adonnis) of Los Angeles, CA, close nephews and nieces; Anthony Holley (Donna) of Racine, WI, Jeff Holley (Sherie) of Milwaukee, WI, John Holley, Jr. (Tiffany) of Killeen, TX, Charleston Holley, Sr., Kimberley Holley, Aretha McAlister Hall, Sherri Knowles, James Cook and Tunia LeSueur Cole.  A host of other loving nieces, great nieces, nephews/great nephews, cousins and friends.
