Derrick Gipson, 45, transitioned on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at The University of Mississippi Medical Center, Grenada, MS.
Derrick Gipson was born July 13, 1980 to Adell Ingram and the late Rosemary Gipson as the 5th child and the only boy. Because of his small stature he was given the nickname "PeeWee" by one of his coaches, which stuck with him for the duration of his life. Derrick was a jokester and he never met a stranger. He loved spending time with family and friends, and was always a joy to be around. Although he did not regularly attend church, Derrick loved the Lord.
Derrick received his education from Lafayette County School, and in his early years joined the workforce at Emerson Electric. Derrick later found a passion for cooking, working as a cook at The Volta Taverna for several years, then cooked for Boure' ?, where he worked until he fell ill.
Derrick is remembered by his children, Ashanti (Dedrick) Turnage of Potts Camp, MS, Emiyah Gipson of Coffeville, MS, Jamariun and Demariun Gipson of Abbeville, MS; his father, Adell (Vanessa) Ingram of Aurora, IL; grandson, Dalis Bronson of Potts Camp, MS and granddaughter, A'Nylah Rockette of Coffeeville, MS; bonus children, whom he helped raise, Montez Vaughn, Jack Vaughn, Keyunnia Vaughn, Ayana Jones, and Tiyanna Jones; sisters, Josephine Townsend, Sharon (Charles) Brown, Angelia Gipson, Tywanda Gipson, Latoya (Twan) Mosley, Teresa (Ray) Hickinbottom, Jasmine Williams of Aurora, IL, and Wanda Vaughn; brothers, Bryan Vaughn and Wallace Williams of Aurora, IL; a very special nephew, whom he loved like a brother, Minister Jeremy Gipson; aunts, Kaleista Gipson, Dorthy (Johnny) Turnage, Sandra (Alfred) Jeffries, Melissa Ingram, Christabel Ingram, Karisa Stewart, and Katrina Stewart; uncle, Cecil Ingram; a very special great aunt, Ida Lewis; special friends, McGary Logan, Leslie Burt, Kevin Harden, Felicia Vaughn, and Latoya Turnage, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
