Deacon Cecil George Nugent, 70, transitioned on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, New Albany, MS.
Cecil George Nugent was born on April 30, 1955, to the late Mrs. Lessie Mae Nugent and Mr. Cecil Masselton Nugent in Red Banks, MS. He departed this life on the night of August 23, 2025, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Union County, and was received into the arms of God and His ministering angels. Cecil accepted Christ at an early age under the spiritual guidance of Rev. W.C. Keys at Shady Grove M.B. Church in Myrtle, MS. He was united in holy matrimony to Linda Lee Earl by Rev. W.C. Keys in 1973. To this union six children were born.
A master craftsman in the furniture industry, he was employed by several local establishments. In his spare time, he enjoyed repairing and collecting rare items. He found joy in sitting on his porch in silent reflection, accompanied by his cat, Tom, and his baby raccoon. His favorite phrase was “It will be alright”.
Cecil was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Hannah Clark and Earnest George Nugent of Hampstead, Jamaica, W.I.; his maternal grandparents: Lonnie and Sudie Jennings of Myrtle, MS; his mother and father, Lessie Mae and Cecil Masselton Nugent; his sister, Eadie Marcia Gardner of Myrtle, MS; his brothers, Fred W. Nugent of Myrtle, MS, and Audley Earle Nugent of Ocho Rios, St. Ann, Jamaica, W.I.; his great-grandson, Kaiden D Nugent and his brothers-in-law, Apostle Dr. Nathaniel Smith, Clinton Harris & Willie Frank Pickens.
Mr. Nugent leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 52 years, Linda L. Nugent, and six children: Cecil Douglas Nugent and Anthony George Nugent of Myrtle, MS; Elynda Latrese (Terron) Finley and Regina Nicole (Nick) Cathey, both of New Albany, MS; Brian O’Neal (Letice) Nugent and Aaron Elijah Nugent of Myrtle, MS. He is further survived by his eldest sister, Yvette Spencer of Jamaica, W.I.; Marcia Nugent of Orlando, Florida; Etvern (Judith) Nugent and Ewart Nugent of New York; Lonnie (Canary) Nugent, Minnie Harris, Hannah Pickens, Elizabeth Nugent, and Jackie Sands of Myrtle, MS; Earnest (Sonya) Nugent of Dallas, Texas; Rose Smith of Ocean Springs, MS; Cecil Boucher Nugent of Orlando, Florida; Christopher Nugent of New Jersey; and Ashley Nugent of Orlando, Florida, along with twenty-five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home, 722 Coulter Drive, New Albany, MS 38652.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at New Birth Community Church, 614 Glade Avenue, New Albany, MS 38652.
Burial will take place at Gerizum Cemetery, Myrtle, MS.
