Daniel Edmond Cook, 73, of Byhalia, MS, transitioned on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Methodist Hospital, Olive Branch, MS.
Daniel Edmond Cook, 73, of Byhalia, MS formerly of Richwood, WV, went home to his Lord on June 14, 2025, surrounded by family. Born September 14, 1951, in Richwood, WV, he was the son of the late Clinton "Junior" Cook and Wilma Juanita Cook.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a U. S. Army Veteran, Dan lived a long and courageous life marked by service, sacrifice and love. He answered the call for duty early in life and went on to serve his country with honor and distinction in the United States Army. A proud veteran of Vietnam, Dan was presented with the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
After his military service he worked as a diesel mechanic for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority before moving to the Triad Region of NC and working as a dispatcher/troubleshooter for Volvo Trucks of America. He later moved to the Memphis/Mississippi area where he worked for Swift Logistics and MS Carriers before retiring from Ozark Motor Lines.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife Shirley Harding, children John Brandon Kirby, granddaughters Marissa Lee Kirby and Anna Marie Kirby, grandson Gabriel James Kirby and brother-in-law Earl Harmon. Eldest son Patrick Daniel Cook and wife Keri, grandson Brayden Daniel Cook and granddaughter Kaylin Elizabeth Cook, Moscow, TN; youngest son Daniel Zachery Cook and wife Jessica, granddaughter Caylee Juanita Cook, grandsons Daniel Jaxton Cook and Thomas (TJ) James Jones, Lakeland, TN; Sister Karen Cook Howerton and husband Wally of Richwood, WV.
He is preceded by death Sister Vickie Ann Cook Hinkle, son Ralph Bradley Harmon, and daughter Rebecca Lou Looney.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital in Olive Branch, MS and to Serenity Funeral Home in Holly Springs, MS.
A Memorial Service, with full military honors, will be held Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 3:00 pm at his residence, at 707 Highway 309 North, Byhalia, MS.
Another Memorial Service will be held at a future date at Dan's former home in Richwood, WV.
