Christopher Maurice Young

Mr. Christopher Maurice Young, 56, of Lithonia GA, formerly of Oxford, MS, transitioned on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Emory University Hospital, in Atlanta, GA.

Mr. Christopher Maurice Young was born the on the 24th day of February 1967, the 5th of 7 Children to Birk and Lou Alice Young, in Oxford, Lafayette County, MS.

Chris accepted Christ at an early age, joining Buford Chapel Church 

After graduation from Lafayette High School class of 1989.  Chris went on to further his education at the University of Mississippi receiving a Master’s Degree in Business Information Systems, and a Masters of Economics, 6 of 7 children to graduate from the University of Mississippi. Later he moved to Atlanta, where he was gainfully employed with American Honda Corporation since 1995, serving as Senior Logistics Manager until he retired.

Chris, with that infectious smile, absolutely loved his family and friends with his whole heart, He loved all sports, but golf was his passion, which he loved playing on the green with his brothers.  He was a member of the Masonic Order, and Alumni Association of the University of Mississippi.  Chris also served as Intern Mentor with the Big Brother Organization for American Honda.

Chris leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Sonia Brooks Young, of Alpharetta, GA, son, Chanzik Brooks of Washington DC, 3 sisters; Gretchen Young, Cassandra Banks, and Adrian Ann Young, 3 brothers; Lawrence Young, Julius Young, Allen Young, and 2 bonus brothers; Richard Burnett, and Ronnie Burnett. aunts, uncles, a host of other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Birk and Lou Alice Young, grandparents, Dennis & Merinda Burnett, and Roosevelt & Elnora Young, and a special “Mom" Aunt Elizabeth Young which graciously raised Chris, Cassandra, Allen, Julius, Gretchen, Lawrence and Adrian as her own.

For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Body will lie in state at 10:00 a.m. and Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Springfield M.B. Church, 62 County Road 106, Abbeville, MS  38601.

Burial will take place at Buford Cemetery, 57 County Road 198, Oxford, MS  38655.
