Mr. Charles Howell, 83, transitioned on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Delta Health System-The Medical Center, in Greenville, MS.
Charles Edward Howell, departed to his heavenly home Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at the age of 83 in Greenville, MS. He was born to the late Leonard Howell and Ella T. Dogan Howell, April 20, 1942 in New Albany, MS. He was a former member of Zion Chapel MB Church and a 1960 graduate of Union County Training School.
He began his music journey at the age of 12. He graduated from Rust College in Holly Springs, MS, with a degree in Music Education. In 1964, Charles began teaching elementary school in Rosedale, MS. He retired from South Delta Elementary School in Rolling Fork, MS.
He served as a musician for various churches in the Greenville, MS area. He united with New Hope First Baptist Church, Greenville, MS, under the leadership of Pastor JM Kimble, where he became the musician and remained faithful until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Cottrell and Roland, nieces, Jacqueline, Felicia, Amber and brother-in-law: Rev. Hugh M. Turner.
His memory and legacy lives on with his sisters: Anna L. Turner and Carolynese Campbell, brother, Rev. Lee R. Howell (Annie), sister-in-law, Shirley Howell, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be from 12:00 Noon to 1:50 p.m., and Services will be at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at New Hope First Baptist Church, 705 Nelson Street, Greenville, MS 38701.
Viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m., and Homegoing Services will be at 1:00 p.m., in his hometown of New Albany, MS, on Saturday, September 13, 3025, at Zion Chapel M.B. Church, 1138 Highway 30 West, New Albany, MS 38652.
Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, 816 Forest Heights St., New Albany, MS 38652
