Betty Jean Coleman was born April 12, 1953, in Lafayette County Mississippi to Pearl Shipp Herod and Russell Houston . Betty Jean had a love for Christ and as an adult, joined The Truth Church.
Betty Jean received her education in the Lafayette County School system. She was formerly married to Floyd Coleman Jr.
Betty Jean worked as a cook for Oxford Healthcare for 30 years. She enjoyed: going out to eat with family and friends, playing spades and bingo, and talking on the phone with friends and loved ones. She made sure everyone always felt special on their birthday. Betty Jean was a loving person who loved people. She ended every phone call with the words “ I Love You.”
On Wednesday, January 19, 2022, Betty Jean passed away at Baptist-Desoto Memorial Hospital in Southaven, Mississippi.
She leaves to cherish her smiles and wonderful memories: four children Teresa Coleman and Michael Coleman of Oxford, MS, Joanna Coleman (Anthony Boakye) of Southaven, MS, and Stephanie Coleman of Holly Springs, MS; two sisters: Barbara Houston (Charlie Rounds) of Holly Springs, MS, and Annie Catherine Williams of Milwaukee, WI; one brother: John Houston of Milwaukee, WI; ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
Betty Jean is preceded in death by her parents: Pearl Shipp Herod and Russell Houston, sisters: Russell Mae Wortham, Bernice Houston, and Bonnie Faye Herod, brothers - Jerry Houston, Willie Arthur Houston and Stanley Houston.
Walk-through Visitation will be Wednesday, January 26, 2022, 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at Serenity-Burney Funeral Home Chapel, Oxford, MS.
Graveside Service will be Thursday, January 27, 2022, 11:00 a.m., Oxford City Memorial Cemetery, Oxford, MS.
