Bettie Hardin Obituary

Bettie Bernice Hardin, 71, transitioned on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, in New Albany, MS.

Bettie Bernice Hardin “Boo” was born on September 13, 1951, to the late Hattie Mae “Mary” Missouri West Berry-Hardin and Jessie L. Dykes, Sr. in New Albany, MS. At an early age, Bettie accepted Christ as her savior and became a dedicated member at the Beaver Dam M.B. Church. She worked diligently in various capacities for many years in the following services:  Usher Board President, Treasurer of the Ripley Baptist Usher Board Convention, church financial class leader, church special events facilitator and fundraiser organizer, the church kitchen committee chair, by-laws committee member, and the unofficial school reunion organizer for the Class of 1970. Bettie also wrote plays and organized Easter, Black History, and Mother’s Day programs. 

Bettie was a dedicated and productive employee of the Futorian/Mohasco Furniture Company, where she worked for approximately 37 years until its closing. She enjoyed talking with her friends and family members, working in her yard, fishing, playing board and card games, and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. She met no strangers and was ALWAYS there for others. 

Bettie leaves to cherish her  memories: Her siblings - Mary V. Hattix of New Albany, MS, Wilma King (Leroy) of Racine, WI, Jessie L. Dykes and Larry Dykes (Ann) of New Albany, MS. God sisters: Mary Harris, Virginia Rutherford, and Mary Joyce Smith. Nieces:  Mary Virginia Dykes, Gwendolyn Woods,  Frances Dyes-Jenkins, Lora Whitesde, Cynthia, Tammie, and Shunta’ Hill, Kaundlen Anderson, Zundra Weathersby, Tiffene Brown, Tundra Davis, Zanetta Dykes, Evelyn Dykes-Rogers, Tamesha Mitchell, Melody Dykes, and Sarah Thomas. Nephews:  Danny Buford, Orlando Hardin, William Hayes Calvin,  Byran Riley, Kalan Whiteside, Timothy Hill, Willie Brown, Jr., Samuel Hill, Tyler Evans, Willie Dykes, Jr., Khary Dykes,   Jermaine and Jason Berry, Torrey Dukes, and Charlie Foote.

She was preceded in death by both her parents and the following siblings: Bobby Hardin (twin brother), Marrion “Tody” Hardin, Willie Ed Hardin, Willie James “Billy” Hardin, William “Red” Dykes, Katherine Hawthorne, Mary Lee “Punch” Foote, Willie Mae Harvey, Etera Ivy (William), Barbara Welch (Ray), and Minister Jerry D. “J.D.” Hardin (Joyce, Eula, Hattie, and Jan), Niece; Brenda Hardin, Nephews; Derwin King and Tony Dykes.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 722, Coulter Drive, New Albany, MS  38642.

Services will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., at Beaver Dam M.B. Church, 842 County Road 115, New Albany, MS  38642.

Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
