Annie Owens Obituary

Mrs. Annie Bell Owens, 90,  transitioned on Friday, April 21, 2023, at her residence, in Water Valley,  MS.

On April 21, 2023, early Friday morning, I was home with my daughter Annie Pearl in the comfort of my bedroom at 90 years old, when I went home to see my Lord. I just wanted to rest and so I did. Lord there is no one like you and you already have prepared a place for me. To all that know me, I will see you later. To my children, grand children, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, I am alright now. Be sweet for Moma, you hear: I love you, my babies. I am finished keeping the streets clean from my many walks. The road runner has gone home. I have also hung up  my umbrella and my high heel shoes.

A TIME TO BE BORN ~ Ecclesiastes 3:2

On June 16, 1932, in Water Valley, Mississippi, I was born to my loving mother and father, Annie C. Owens and Fred Owens. I was one of twelve children.

A TIME TO BE SAVED ~ Ephesians 6:6-5/Proverbs 22:16

I joined Everdale Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Purnell. I enjoyed singing solos with the choir and also enjoyed being on the Usher Board of the church. I was honored as the eldest living member of this church and for this, I thank you.

I always worked well with people and I never met a stranger. In my younger years, I worked at the Red Burn Country Club, Mott's, Ram 2 to which later became known as Holly Corpator. I also worked at the Headstart Center. I was a babysitter and a private housekeeper for many families and businesses. I love good conversation and being around friends and family. I enjoyed walking where I needed to go, even in my high heels in my younger years. I loved sewing quilts, stitching clothing, neatly pressed clothing, growing flowers, singing and listening to gospel music and caring for those in need. If I knew you needed help, I helped you if I could. I also enjoyed putting on my lipstick, powder, earrings with my foxy wig and drinking my coffee on the front porch as I counted the cars driving by.

In 1956, I was married to the late Richard Earl Gordon and to this union, we had 3 children, Gertrude and twins; Annie Pearl and Richard Earl, Jr. I have so much to be thankful for and met so many lovely people.

I leave to cherish my memories, my baby sister and friend; Margaret Johnson (Tee) of Oxford, MS, my children; Gertrude and Annie Pearl of Water Valley, MS, also granddaughter, who I raised, affectionately as my daughter, Angela Gordon-Brown (Dwight) of Clinton, MS, my bonus children; Etta Louise Bobo of Water Valley, MS, Howard Bobo (Peggy) of Grenada, MS, the late Jake Bobo, grandchildren; James Gordon (Lometheia) of Toledo, OH, Joann Caldwell and John L. Caldwell of Water Valley, MS, great-grandchildren; Dwight Brown, Jr. of Hattiesburg, MS, James Washington, Jr. of Augusta, GA, Tiah Celeste Brown of Jackson, MS, Bryanna Brown of Pearl, MS, my "Pookie" Jumiah Jones, Pallyus Caldwell, Saryah Caldwell all of Water Valley, MS, Makiyah Gordon of Toledo, OH, great-great grandchild; Jada Washington of Oxford, MS, I leave a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.

I now join the ranks with my friends and family who have gone on before me, My son; Richard Earl Gordon, mother, Annie C. Owens, father; Fred Owens and my siblings are waiting for me; Freddie Harris (Clinton), Robert Owens (Gean), Willie Owens (Helen) George Owens (Berulamae), Russell Owens (Dorothy), Leslie Owens, Ella Mae Owens, Gertrude Owens, Claudie Mae-Valentine (Roy) and Ethel Oliver (Que-V).
