OXFORD formerly of DECATUR, IL- Rev. Ronald "Ronnie" E. Biggs, Sr., 65, left his earthy tabernacle to rest in the arms of Jesus on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at his home in Oxford.  Ronnie, the son of the late James and Lucy (Beals) Biggs, was born on Tuesday, June 30, 1953.  Ronnie graduated from Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1971.  Before moving to Los Angeles, CA he worked at PPG, Secure Tech, and Renoware Distributors.  After moving to Los Angeles, Ronnie was a security guard at The Museum of Contemporary Art, worked on the LA police force, and security for the Saudia Prince.  Ronnie returned to Decatur in the 90’s.  In Decatur he worked for Moran & Goebel, Decatur Mass Transit, Walker Funeral Service, and Washington Bus Line.  Ronnie also assisted with caring for his parents.  In 2006 he relocated to Tupelo, Mississippi where he worked with his brother Willie and Serenity Funeral Home, and Campbell Tours.

Ronnie relocated to Oxford, Mississippi in 2007.  In Oxford he obtained employment with the school district’s transportation service as a bus driver, a driver for charter bus service, a police officer for the City of Oxford, and General Manager for McDonald Transit.  He was also Vice President on the board for the Mississippi Public Transportation Association. Ronnie LOVED Oxford, OUT, and MPTA.  He invited everyone he knew to visit him in Oxford and no matter how often you visited you received the OXFORD GRAND TOUR. While in Oxford, he had a home built and was living the dream. At an early age, Ronnie gave his life to the Lord at New Salem Baptist Church where he sang in the youth choir.  Ronnie was called to the ministry while living in Los Angeles.  In Decatur he attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, and in Oxford he attended Toby Tubby Missionary Baptist Church.  Ron was also a member of the Kenneth Knox Ensemble. 

Services locally will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 11a.m. at Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building in Oxford. Serenity-Martin Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of local arrangements.

Visitation and Funeral Services held where he was born and raised will be on Sunday, December 16, 2018 viewing from 3p.m. until time of services at 5p.m. at Main Street Church of The Living God on 2000 North Main Street in Decatur, IL under the leadership of Bishop Thomas E. Walker-Pastor. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Decatur, IL. Walker Funeral Services is in charge of the final services.

To enhance his Oxford life, Ronnie met his LOVE/Fiancé – Sherry Bond.  Ronnie and Sheri were the proud parents of RJ, their beloved Pekinese Poodle.  Ronnie was also the father of Tinoai Cotton and Ronald Biggs Jr. He is the Papa to 4 grandchildren (Beonika Cotton, Brittani Cotton, Tameka Cotton all of Decatur and 6 great grandchildren (I’Keryah Anderson, I’Onia Cotton, Kenneth Smith Jr., Ke’Airra Cotton, I’Zariah Green, I’Lynn Lucy Mae Cotton). Stepdad to April Mathis, Terrelle Mathis, and Special Papa to Jaevian.  In addition, Ronnie leaves to cherish his memories brothers: Bishop Willie (Dorothy) Thornton of Belden, MS, Roger Beals of St. Louis, MO, Bishop Donald (Vivian) Biggs of Decatur, IL and sister: Concetta (Billy) Guyse of Decatur.  Ronnie’s life long friends are: John Byers Jr., Norman Coe, Bruce and Marvin Manns; special friends: Carol Pringle and Gene Regan.   Ron was an uncle, friend, confidant to many. He was preceded in death by his daughter Roneisha Biggs, his parents, and his nephew Billy “BJ” Guyse Jr.
