Mr. Roy Jones

OXFORD- Mr. Roy Jones, 74, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. Roy Jones was born March 16, 1944  in Water Valley, MS, to the late Annie Mae Murry and Hosie Joiner. He was reared by David Jones as his father. He accepted Christ at an early  age joining Harrisonville M.B. Church, where he served on the Usher Board until he was no longer able to stand at his post. He remained a faithful servant until his death.

Roy attended Lafayette County Schools. A gentle giant, soft-spoken, truly loved his family and those he came in contact with, all loved him right back. He was employed by Service Masters and did concrete finishing. He enjoyed fishing, working on old model cars and spending time with family and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11a.m. at Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building in Oxford with Pastor Darin Fowler delivering the eulogy. Burial will take place at Harrisonville Church Cemetery in Oxford. Serenity-Martin Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of the arrangements.

Roy leaves to cherish his memories, his wife: Betty Moody-Jones, sons: Leroy Jones of AR, Dennis Moody of Water Valley, Albert Moody, Isiah (Tonya) Moody, Eddie (Trina) Moody all of Oxford, daughters: Sherry Moody of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Marilyn (Will) Redmond, Betty (Scott) Gilliom of Oxford, Patricia (Kerry) Ealey of Arlington, TX, sisters: Linda Phillips, Gracie Simmons, Susan Simmons, Earnestine Copeland, Kate Adams, Carrie Jones, Ella (Melvin) Scott, Ann Williams, and Rosie Sanford, brothers: Bobby Jones, LB Jones, James Jones, George Simmons, special nephew: Johnny Simmons of Memphis, TN, special nieces: Tressa Lamb of AR, and Jenifer Grant of Forest City AR, and a host of grandchildren and other close relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 5-7p.m. at Serenity-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford.

He is preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents, one daughter: Marilyn Jones, one son: Clifton Moody, two sisters: Myrtle Joiner and Margret Jones.
