Melvin “Shack” Shackelford was born December 9, 1955 in New Albany, MS to Theatric and Mary Catherine Berry Shackelford.
He was an avid farmer who loved to serve his community. He was employed at Futorian Manufacturing Company until their doors closed as Caye’s Upholstery in 2011 where he then became an employee of the City of New Albany. He was an active steward for St Mary United Methodist Church where he also served as the PPR and Cemetery chairs of St Mary. He loved riding his favorite horse, Sugar, and gathering with his friends to ride in parades, trail rides, and serving in benefit programs.
Out of the union on January 31, 1976 of Melvin and Debbrah Shackelford, he leaves to cherish his memories to his loving wife Debbrah Shackelford, two daughers: Melvis Amanda Shackelford and Heather (Samuel “Jamie”) Carter, four grandchildren; Dylan Mcneal, Kamron Carter, Christian Carter, Khloe Carter, Kaelin Carter, Kylin Carter, and Tyson McKenzie.
He also leaves his loving memories to his mother, Mary Catherine Shackelford; five sisters, Barbara (Cornelius) Campbell, New Albany, MS; Reyna Shackelford, New Albany, MS; Cathy (Dennis) Cannon, New Albany, MS; Jacqueline Shackelford-Cameron, New Albany, MS; Lisa (Keith) Thompson, Starkville, MS; one brother Berry “Dave” Shackelford, New Albany, MS, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Theatric “Nuke” Shackelford; his grandparents, Walter and Evie L. Shackelford, Kathleen Pegues, and Matt Parham.
