Deacon William Coleman Garner

On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, William C. Garner was called home by his Heavenly Father at Union
County Health & Rehab in New Albany, MS.
William C. Garner was born June 3, 1940 to the late Earl Garner and Bertha Foster-Garner. He accepted
Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age and joined Shady Grove M.B. Church in Myrtle, MS where he served
as a faithful & active member as deacon, treasurer, and Sunday School Superintendent until his health began to
fail.
William graduated in 1959 from Old Salem High School in Ashland, Mississippi. He retired in 2002
after working 38 years for Master-Bilt in New Albany, MS. On March 8, 1964, William was united in holy
matrimony to the late Lynnie (Stephens) Garner. Unto this union, a son and daughter were born, William Jr. and
Bonnie Kay.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one son William (Tanisha) Garner, Jr. of Hickory Flat, MS, one
daughter Bonnie Kay (Johnny) Johnson of Myrtle, MS; four grandchildren: Jevonte Johnson and Tremell
Kimmons both of New Albany, MS, Mercedes Garner of Oxford, MS, and Shaquille Garner of San Clementine,
CA; one great-granddaughter Logan Smith of New Albany, MS; five sisters: Maggie Jones, Jeannelle (Archie)
Crawford, Roberta (C.W.) Ivy, all of New Albany, MS, Lola McKinney of Tupelo, MS, Martha (Rodney)
Dixon of Kansas City, MO; three brothers Charles (Odessa) Garner of Myrtle, MS, Roman Garner, and Early
(Pearlene) Garner, both of Memphis, TN; three sister-in-laws, three brother-in-laws, and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Bertha Garner, one grandchild Kieran M. Garner, one
sister Sarah (Garner) McBride, and two sister-in-laws Violet “Wankie” Garner &Annette Stephens-Harris
