Deacon Ernie Lee Isom

OXFORD- Deacon Ernie Lee Isom, 68, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Baptist-East Hospital in Memphis, TN. Ernie Lee Isom was born March 15, 1950 to the late Rev. Willie Claude and Isabella Lester Isom in Marshall County, MS. He departed this life on Monday, August 6, 2018. He professed his faith in Christ and joined Mt. Ollie MB Church in Potts Camp, MS where he served as a faithful Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Men of Mission member until his call to glory. Ernie was an active member of the VFW and the 32 Mile Crew. 

After graduating from Potts Camp High School, he attended Rust College in Holly Springs, MS, then served as a proud member of the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve. Following honorable service in the United States Army and Army National Guard, Ernie retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s Engineering Department after 28 years.

Ernie was united in holy matrimony to Thelma Smith Isom on August 30, 1980. To this blessed union three children were born. 

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Thelma Isom, two daughters, Kimberly Isom, Krystal Isom, both of Oxford, MS, one son Robert (Anika) Isom of Memphis, TN, Mother-in-law, Rev. Mary Alice Smith ofOxford, MS  three sisters: Betty Allen of Potts Camp, MS, Myra(James) Scales of Waterford, MS, Alma (Eddie) Manning of Rockford, IL,and Sarah Ruth Berry of Milwaukee, WI four brothers: Frank Isom, Naymond(Clara) Isom both of Holly Springs, MS, Roosevelt (Wanda) Isom of Memphis, TN, Earlie (Gwen) Isom ofJackson, MS, Billy Berry of Milwaukee, WI and Leroy Berry of Blue Mountain, MS, four sisters-in-law: Alice (Roy) Alexander of Oxford, MS, Patricia Smith, Deborah (Rayford) Jackson, both of Milwaukee, WI, and Mary Jean Smith of Oxford, MS,  seven grandchildren: MaliqTurner, LaKrystal Turner, Makal Turner, David Isom, Brittany Crockett, Joseph Isom, Josana Isom, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

He was proceeded in death by parents, Rev. Willie Claude and Isabella Isom, Mrs. Docie Berry Isom, father-in-law:Effice Smith, sister: Helen Marion, brothers: Ralph Isom,Robert Isom and Joe Berry, two brothers-in-law: Willie Jones and Jeffice Smith.

Services will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 12 Noon at Mt. Ollie M.B. Church in Potts Camp, MS. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Serenity-Martin Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be on Monday, August 13, 2018 from 5-7p.m. at Serenity-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford.
