Deacon Alford Johnson

PONTOTOC- Deacon Alford Johnson, 93, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2019 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born on October 5, 1925 in Pontotoc, MS to the late Booker T. Johnson and Louanna Clay Johnson. He professed a Love in Christ at an early age and joined Bethel M.B. Church where he served as a Deacon for over 63 years. He was united in holy matrimony to Molena Lipsey Johnson. To this union four children were born. Alford’s life was filled with love for his family and friends. He enjoyed worshiping God in Prayer.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories to carry on his legacy two sons: Willie Johnson and Terry Johnson both of Pontotoc. One daughter: Ida (Jimmy) Scott of Ecru, MS. Five grandchildren: Tony Hightower of Pontotoc, Quincy (Melissa) Scott of Verona, MS, Demond (Sarah) Scott of Pontotoc, Ginnell Scott of Ecru, MS and Lotoria Johnson of Jackson, TN. Eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. One sister: Viola Cooperwood of Pontotoc and one brother: Roosevelt Johnson of Tupelo, MS and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, two sisters and one son.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 1p.m. at Bethel M.B. Church on 2905 Hwy 342 Black Zion Road Pontotoc, MS. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Serenity-Autry Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 19, 2019 from 4-7p.m. at Serenity-Autry Funeral Home Chapel.
