Thomasine Hill Obituary

Ms. Thomasine Hill, 65, of Waverly, TN formerly of New Albany, MS, transitioned on Friday, March 29, 2024, at her residence.

Thomasine Hill affectionately known as “Sine” was born unto this earth on June 16, 1958 in New Albany, Mississippi blessed to the union of Rufus and Ruth Hill. She was the second eldest of one brother and two sisters. Thomasine at an early age submitted her life to Christ whom she loved like no other. Sine also started her God given talent of music at the age of 3. Thomasine was such a genuine person known by her humble spirit, soft speaking voice, joyful laughter and the tune that blessed everyone angelically on the keys of a piano and organ. To add Sine’s voice was so soothing to the soul. Thomasine’s musical talent has touch the masses from churches, schools and organizations galore. One of her favorite hymns was “The Eye Is On the Sparrow”. Sine loved everyone. She was an optimist and a giver always grateful and thankful for even the little things in life. She served as Musical Director at her home church, Salters Chapel AME and at Waverly United Methodist Church.

Thomasine was huge on education. She graduated high school at W.P. Daniel in New Albany, Mississippi in 1976. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford, Mississippi in 1980 where she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Thomasine became the second pianist for the Ole Miss Black Student Union Choir. Sine continued to receive her Master of Art in 1983 with a specialty in Speech and Audiology at Tennessee State University. Afterwards, Thomasine made her home in a small town very fitting to her in Waverly, Tennessee in 1986. Thomasine was a beloved educator in Speech/Language & Chorus at Waverly Central High School in Waverly, Tennessee since 1986. She was also cherished and loved in her community of Waverly, Tennessee that she was appointed Alderwoman in Planning & Zoning and served as the Board of Directors for United Way of Humphreys County among other good Samaritan roles. Sine was a pioneer and a trend setter. She made everything in life look easy. With her inspiring spirit, her sisters followed in her footsteps to achieve their college degree while residing in Tennessee as well.

Thomasine is survived by her beloved brother Rufus Hill, Jr.  (Nora), dearest sisters, Vanassa Hill (Lebanon, TN) and Daphane Hill Spight (Madison, TN). Her nieces; Traci Gamble, Melanie Hill, and Lanei Joi Spight.  Her nephews; Michael Wade, Donato Spight and Richard Gurley.  She is also survived by a host of great nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Thomasine is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Rufus and Mrs. Ruth Hill.

Thomasine was very proud to be a native of New Albany, Mississippi. resident of Waverly, Tennessee and now on Friday March 29, 2024 an angel in her new home of heaven in which our Holy Bible states in Matthew 25:23 NIV “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your Master’s happiness!”

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 722 Coulter Drive, New Albany, MS  38652

Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel, 722 Coulter Drive, New Albany, MS  38652

Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, New Albany, MS
